Union seized the initiative early, with Tim Skarke forcing two saves from Nicolas Kristof – a low blast and a long-range effort. András Schäfer also tested the keeper with a curling free‑kick, but the decisive goal still eluded the hosts.
Elversberg shook off a sluggish start, nearly scoring when Maximilian Rohr’s corner header struck the crossbar in the 35th minute. Just before halftime, Frederik Rønnow produced a sharp reflex save to deny Noah Darvich from a tight angle, leaving the score level.
