Frankfurt made four changes to the side that had beaten Hamburg in the DFB Cup days earlier, while the visitors also made alterations to their line-up. Young Niko Iličević was named among the substitutes for the hosts a day after turning 16.

Frankfurt’s blistering start.

Frankfurt set the tempo early, with Can Uzun forcing a clever save and Younes Ebnoutalib compelling Daniel Heuer Fernandes to make a reflex stop.

In the tenth minute Uzun slipped a through ball to Farès Chaïbi, whose low cross was inadvertently turned into an own goal by Warmed Omari, giving Frankfurt a 1‑0 lead.

Hamburg answered four minutes later when Albert Grønbæk delivered a cross for Terem Moffi to tap home, equalising at 1‑1 – a score that held until the break despite Robin Koch’s late header being well saved.

Onyedika and Ebnoutalib seal the win.

Frankfurt struck again right after the restart; Chaïbi’s corner found Lilian Brassier, Heuer Fernandes could only parry, and Raphael Onyedika bundled the ball home for his first competitive goal.

A Chaïbi effort was later disallowed for offside against Ansgar Knuff. Then, in the 69th minute, Uzun surged forward, slipped a pass to Ebnoutalib, who calmly finished to make it 3‑1. The concern here is Hamburg’s lack of finishing.

Hamburg pressed late, with Omari blasting the crossbar and Otto Stange forcing Noah Atubolu into a save, yet the score remained unchanged.
