Jets part ways with offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand after one season

The Jets will have a brand new pair of coordinators in 2026.

New York is parting ways with offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand after one season, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday.

Engstrand’s departure comes just over a month after the Jets fired defensive coordinator Steve Wilks at the end of the 2025 campaign.

Ahead of his second year as Jets head coach, Aaron Glenn had multiple conversations with Engstrand about his continued role, and the two ultimately decided to move on, NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo reported.

Glenn brought Engstrand, 43, over last season from Detroit, where the former was defensive coordinator and the latter was Dan Campbell and Ben Johnson coordinator of the passing game.

In his first year as an NFL OC, Engstrand failed to replicate the success he achieved with the Lions.

The Jets started strong, putting up 32 points and 394 yards with Justin Fields under center in a Week 1 shutout of the Steelers, but slowed from there. With Fields struggling through an ineffective game and Tyrod Taylor and Garrett Wilson dealing with injuries, the Jets’ offense stalled, especially through the air.

New York’s offense finished 29th in points scored, total yards and first downs and was dead last in passing yards (2,385).
