The Jets benched Justin Fields at halftime in Week 7 and turned to Tyrod Taylor. The results were the same in a 13-6 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Fields has struggled mightily since a promising Week 1, missing layups and looking rattled in the pocket. He has completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 845 yards with four TD tosses and zero INTs in six starts.
Taylor, meanwhile, is a more efficient passer but struggled with the deep ball Sunday, frustrating several open receivers while throwing two interceptions.
“I just think the defense, the special teams are doing better,” Johnson said. “The defense is pretty good. If we could just finish the pass, it would look good. We’ve got to finish some passes.”
The comments suggest Johnson would favor Taylor taking over at center, but he said the decision was up to the coach. Glenn has yet to announce who his quarterback will be in Week 8. Regardless of how the QB situation works out this year, it’s clear that the signal-caller the Jets have been searching for for decades is not on the roster.
While the owner appears to be bothered by the quarterback, his faith in Glenn remains unwavering, despite a number of coaching mishaps, including poor halftime conditions.
“I hug him every day. I do. I say, ‘keep the faith, man,'” Johnson said.
