Taylor’s knee injury may have delayed Field’s return to the bench after Week 7. The Jets were winless and Glenn was uncommitted to Fields at that point, but when Taylor was ruled out in Week 8, Fields went on to give New York its first win of the season in a wild 39-38 game at Cincinnati. After the Jets’ bye week, Fields started again and picked up another win against the Browns at home.
Fields completed 15 of 26 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown in last week’s 27-14 loss at New England, a performance that reflected stagnant problems on offense with him under center. He has compiled 1,259 yards this season and a 7-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio for an offense that ranks last in the NFL at 139.9 yards per game.
Taylor started for the injured Fields in a Week 3 loss to the Buccaneers, returning two TDs through the air – something Fields managed to do just once in his nine starts this season. The 36-year-old veteran has thrown for 379 yards with three TDs and three INTs in three total games this season (one start).
Taylor will face a tough task on Sunday against a strong Ravens team that has played great defense of late. All-star Garrett Wilson, who is on injured reserve with a knee injury, will not be available.
The Jets (2-8) turn to Taylor amid another losing season, Glenn’s first as head coach in New York.
