Jerry Jones: Cowboys have “ammo” to make business to improve defense

Jerry Jones: Cowboys have "ammo" to make business to improve defense

Jerry Jones traded off his most talented player before the season started. Less than three weeks before the NFL business deadline, the owner of Dallas Cowboys could not have been managed.

Speaking at a press conference announcing that the East West Shrine Bowl will be played in the Ford Center on January 27, 2026, Jones said he would not rule out improving the defense if the business introduced.

“If there is a business that would help the defense, we are in a position to do that business …” Jones said through the team’s official website. “[It] Doesn’t mean we’re going to create such, but we certainly had in mind when we started this season that we were going to have AMMO to be more flexible in terms of what we do with the project list when we go with this year, and of course when we come in the next few years. “

The cowboys traded Micah Parsons to Green Bay for Kenny Clark and Val in the first round in 2026 and 2026 and Jones gave Jones “ammo” which he talks about in both terms of extra selection and wage cap.

The cowboys sit in 2-3-1 after a loss on Sunday for Carolina. Eagles and Washington, both of whom lose, helped the cowboys to be close enough to let the late season run the potential. Jones’ comments emphasize that he knows if Dallas is going to go, it was for a defense player, as that side of the ball has proved to be one of the worst units in the NFL.

There are few players that Dallas could add to who would justify paying premium prices. Jeffery Simmons comes to mind-all-pro talent under a contract through 2027 on a team that goes nowhere. Cheaper movement or two may need to add depth to college or rotary race.

“We have always thought that if we see a way to add this year with business to the deadline, then we will take advantage of it,” Jones said. “That’s what we set out to start this year, was to have ammunition to do things if we have a chance.”

Jones noted that the club expects to get Linebacker Demarvion over the cut, possibly after week 10, and novice Shavon Revel Jr. could turn back from the grated ACL at some point. He would not put a timeline on neither, but they are part of all the calculation that comes with business.

“We will weigh and evaluate what are the chances of the players we have returned, how will they affect what it will put this team as opposed to we should add to a business player?” Said Jones. “I don’t have business in mind at all now. This is coming now if someone is on the call.”
