The Netherlands are in a surprising position to watch Sweden in World Cup Group F after playing an entertaining draw with Japan.
Ronald Koeman’s side took the lead twice, to eventually come away with a 2–2 draw from the tournament opener. Sweden, on the other hand, ran out 5-1 winners over Tunisia, which was so emphatic that it forced the defeated opposition to change managers.
Despite going into Saturday’s early game trailing the Swedes by two points, the Netherlands remain favorites in this particular fixture. For all the excitement Viktor Gyökeres’ play alongside Alexander Isak generates, it also exposes Sweden’s midfield. Anything less than all three points might not cost Koeman his job, but it would certainly put a lot of pressure on Holland’s final group game against Tunisia.
