FC Copenhagen, Roony Bardghji, out for 9-12 months after a knee injury

FC Copenhagen’s Roony Bardghji has suffered a serious knee injury and faces nine to 12 months out of action.

Copenhagen confirmed the 18-year-old had suffered the problem in training ahead of his side’s play-off against Silkeborg on Sunday.

Bardghji is one of Europe’s most highly regarded talents, proving himself as a tough left-footed winger. To talk to Athletic in January, Bardghji declared his desire “to become the best player in the world”.

“We all feel for Roony and everyone in and around the club will do everything we can to help him get back on the pitch,” said Copenhagen sporting director Peter Christiansen.

“Now he has to take it easy to process this message, but we all know him as a dedicated and serious footballer who we know will come back even stronger.”

Bardghji made his Danish Superliga debut for Copenhagen six days after his 16th birthday in November 2021, but league rules prevented him from doing so before that age. He has played 78 games for Copenhagen in all competitions and scored 15 goals.

This season, Bardghji has scored seven times in 23 Superliga games. The Swedish U21 international also scored against Manchester United in Copenhagen’s 4-3 win in the Champions League group stage in November.

“Right now our focus is on helping Roony and being good leaders and teammates so he can get all the support he needs,” added Copenhagen head coach Jacob Neestrup.

“He is in the best of hands with our medical staff and we know he will work hard on his rehabilitation and show his great ability when he is ready again.”
