Falcons vs. Buccaneers: Three storylines you need to know ahead of Thursday’s Week 15 prime-time game

Falcons vs. Buccaneers: Three storylines you need to know ahead of Thursday's Week 15 prime-time game

1) Battered Baker needs a rebound game for the Bucs

Baker Mayfield got MVP chatter earlier this season, led a thrilling comeback and put up some impressive numbers, but both have eluded him over the past four games. In that span, while Mayfield has endured knee, groin and shoulder injuries, he has completed just 54.3% of his passes for 530 yards, four TDs and four INTs — after throwing just two picks in the previous nine games. Rookie Emeka Egbuka has had a few painful falls in recent games, which has limited his passing game and the offense is still struggling. Guard Ben Bredeson left Week 14 with an injury and is on IR, which weakens the interior of the offensive line. The Bucs could also be without Cade Otton, but they could welcome back Mike Evans and Jalen McMillan. Both receivers have been limited in practice this week, and the Bucs could save them for the Week 16 showdown in Carolina with more than a week of rest, but they also badly need the firepower with every play that matters. Tampa Bay’s offense has scored 59 points (while allowing 98) in the past 14 quarters dating back to the Bills loss. They have to find answers fast. Atlanta’s defense has struggled in recent games, but rookie pass rusher James Pearce Jr. still causing havoc up front.
