Williams pair Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz disclosed that a handful of F1 drivers plan a boys’ getaway between the Bahrain and Singapore Grands Prix.
The Bahrain race was moved to Sepang because of Middle‑East tensions, giving the drivers a window to remain in Asia instead of returning home.
Albon told fans in the Azerbaijan Fan Zone, “Looks like we’re doing a boys’ trip. A few of us will be hanging out together.”
Sainz replied, “Yep, it’s a boys’ trip. Nobody’s bringing a girlfriend, and we’ll be stuck at a remote resort – nothing spectacular.”
For my money, this upgrade could finally give the Grove team a fighting chance in Baku. Williams will debut a major FW48 upgrade after a heavy‑weight debut in Bahrain, where they ran a B‑spec car for the street circuit.
The new package saw Sainz qualify ninth and Albon 13th, but Sainz will start 14th after a five‑place penalty for not slowing under yellow flags.
He also collected two penalty points, raising his tally to four within the past year.
The pair sit 16th and 17th in the standings, holding six and five points respectively.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix at Baku City Circuit kicks off at 15:00 local time (12:00 UK).
