Dolphins' Aaron Brewer admits he was 'shaken' by Jaylen Waddle trade: 'What are we doing?'

The Miami Dolphins rebuild included moving Jaylen Waddle to Denver for a package that includes a first round pick.

For players like Dolphins center Aaron Brewer, the trade was a shot across the bow. Second-team All-Pro Terron Armstead said on “The Set” that his first thought when he heard about the trade was disbelief.

“My first reaction is I’m just shocked. I’m shaking,” he said. “I’m like, what are we doing? But at the same time, I’m happy for my brother. It’s always a family point of view, like, yeah, I want to have the best team we can have, but I love when people step up and I always wish them the best. So I hope he’s doing well.”

After the early stages of NFL rebuilding grief, Brewer was quickly given approval, considering the move — and another loss the Dolphins have endured this season — an opportunity for someone else to further his career.

“Then my next thought right after that is, like, OK, what are we going to do? Brewer said. “What are we doing in this wide reception room? Who is the next man? So, every time I have something like this, I’m looking at the people we still have. Because when you see something like that, you have to put something on your shoulder. This is an extra chip. You see an opportunity. Anytime somebody’s gone, Bradley Chubb’s gone, that next linebacker, left guard. Malik (Washington), opportunity So, that’s where my mentality kind of went with it.

“I’m trying to see how these players that we have, how are you going to fill those shoes? What’s your mindset right now? Are you going to pick up the weight and carry that torch and keep pushing? … That’s my perspective on it right now.”
