Dak Prescott looks to play in Week 18, finish Cowboys’ season with ‘proud’, .500 record

Dak Prescott looks to play in Week 18, finish Cowboys' season with 'proud', .500 record

On paper, Prescott’s involvement would be a no-brainer. But Prescott is also coming off a game where he was sacked six times and the Cowboys QB has been sacked 14 times in the past month.

With one game left to play before a holiday guaranteed to start on January 5, the risk may not be worth taking more quarters of participation. Prescott, however, sees great value in finishing 8-8-1 — the rare .500 record in a division that now plays an odd number of games — and also believes it is important to finish the season with an undefeated record.

“Big difference,” Prescott said. “A lot of pride, I think that’s another reason I want to play. In a season where I’m healthy, I’ve never in my life, in my career, had a season under .500. So that tie is going to come in really handy. It’s a huge difference.”

Schottenheimer will have more than a week to make a final decision on whether his quarterback, the current NFL leader in passing yards (4,482) and the engine that drives his offense, will participate in Week 18. He bowed out after Thursday’s win, saying instead that he would “enjoy Christmas” and “have a little ovulation” before reflecting.

Prescott’s participation might be the only gift the quarterback would still like to find under his tree.
