Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer promises defensive changes after loss to Broncos

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer promises defensive changes after loss to Broncos

“No one is happy with our performance [against the Broncos]” said Schottenheimer. “That is not acceptable. It’s not good enough. I would say that both staff and players realize that the standard was not met, so what do you do now? Be solution oriented.

“The solutions are to make organizational changes, personnel changes — to give this guy a little more playing time and all that. Those things will work themselves out.”

Some of the issues are staffing issues, with a lack of front-end talent to consistently work one-on-one. Some are players who miss tackles or get out of bounds. Others are explanatory issues, with game plans that don’t put players in a position to succeed.

Schottenheimer added that some of the proposed changes likely won’t be implemented until Week 10 for the club, following Monday night’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

“I’m just saying that because we’ve got Arizona on the bye and really, the bigger changes to our style are going to happen in the bye week,” he said. “That’s when we get a chance to say, ‘Okay, now we’re looking back at nine games. What were those issues and did we get them corrected?’

“No? Well, now we need to do this and we need to do that.”

Sitting at 3-4-1, the Cowboys desperately need a win against the 2-5 Cardinals, or any bye week changes could be too late to change their fortunes in 2025.
