Buccaneers keep the door open for Chris Godwin return early in the season.
Tampa Bay will activate the elder receiver from physically incapable of implementing a list and putting it in a 53 -person project list to start the 2025 campaign, confirmed coach Todd Bowles on Thursday.
“He has taken off the puppy list,” Bowles said of Godwin, “but he has to get into football form and everything else, so I wouldn’t expect him to play early.”
Bowles added that All-PRO left tackles Tristan Wirfs (knee) will also start the period on the active project list.
Despite the transfer, Godwin, who continues to rehabilitation, is not expected to play at the beginning of the season and could be aside until October. However, removing it from the youth list opens at least the door for the option he could suit for week 5.
“No, right when he’s ready, just when he’s ready,” Bowles said when asked if it is targeted for the return of Godwin to the game. “He has been away for a long time, he has to get into football form. Tristan, in the same way. But they will be turned off and we will see how it goes on.”
