Cincinnati Bengals have no secret about the plan to make Chase Brown a center of gravity in their rush attack this season.
“I think Chase Brown is the top-10 back in the league,” said Dan Pitcher’s offensive manager through the Associated Press. “Certainly, you don’t want to burn the guy out. You also want to make sure your explosives are on the field and ready to touch the ball as often as possible.”
Brown in the fifth round in 2023, Brown exploded last season when his use shot through the roof. He made 990 meters and seven contact surfaces at 229 rush and added 54 catches in 360 meters, in 16 games played (Sat In Week 18 with an ankle injury)
This dissatisfaction has Bengal have formed their running game around Brown and tailored the system to amplify what the third year back does best.
“At the end of the conversation, it was not about what we think looks good on the table,” said Justin Hill, Running Backs coach. “(It was) What is Chase good in? How can we show his tools in the running game and in the Pass game? Where we have in the running game now is pretty true to who we think is chasing and what he can be.”
In his campaign, Brown finished second in Bengals with 1,350 Garmmage meters and 11 Scrimmage TDS, after only Ja’marr Chase.
The race back really hit his step down to the elastic when Bengals used it as the main back weapon. From weeks 9-17, Brown returned 23.6 contact with the game, second place in the NFL, and 116.3 scrimmage meters per game, fourth in the NFL, on NFL research.
“Sometimes I think of the elastic I’ve had and the improvements I’ve done,” Brown said. “I try to be just at the moment. As clichéd as it sounds. As much as I think ahead sometimes, I’m really trying to be just at the moment and focus on which plays I can do now. The improvements I can do in practice.
The version of Zack Moss earlier on this dissatisfaction made Brown a clear leadership again. Sami Perine returns but turns more as a confidence backup that is used in the case of injuries. Tahj Brooks in the sixth round could be a wild card if he impresses in the last two games before the season (earned 2.6 YPC on 10 points last week).
As more teams use committee methods with the back, Brown should see heavier reps on load than most. In a fraction designed around the attack, the dual RB capacity is a perfect fit in Joe Burrow led.
