Cardinals LT Paris Johnson has the mentality of being a “$40 million man,” just like the top contenders

Cardinals LT Paris Johnson has the mentality of being a "$40 million man," just like the top contenders

Johnson is keenly aware that the OT market is behind the price tags for pass rushers, but reiterated that it’s not about hitting a certain number, it’s about matching the level of play of these top disruptors.

“Now, the equipment market is not there. The equipment market goes up, probably $1 (million) over the next person, and that’s just what it is,” he said. “The D-linebackers aren’t going for it, that’s a different conversation.

“Whatever my mindset is, I believe elite guys that rush the quarterback, that’s what the market is for them. And I believe it takes an equal player to shut that guy down. So I’m not going out, ‘Oh, pay me $28 million, $28.5 (million).’ me $48 (million) mentality for myself. I know that’s not what the market is, but that’s what my mentality can be: If the D-end makes $100 (million) tomorrow, I have to be the 100 million dollar guy. That’s the mentality.”

Johnson’s mindset will be further challenged as Myles Garrett joins the league following the trade to Los Angeles. In 2026, the Cards face two of the five $40-plus million running backs — Garrett twice and the Lions’ Aidan Hutchinson. They also face Maxx Crosby ($35.5 million), Nick Bosa ($34 million), Jonathan Greenard ($30 million), Brian Burns ($28.2 million), Nik Bonitto ($26.5 million), not to mention the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, who bring waves of rushers, twice.

If Johnson makes it through the gauntlet relatively unscathed, he will have proven himself worth the extension that could come down the line.
