Zack Baun makes changes, has high expectations for Vic Fangio's Eagles defense in 2026

Bean is once again embracing the change and this time he is the mentor. The veteran linebacker helped 2025 first-round pick Jihaad Campbell adjust to the pro game last season and will now have to rely on Campbell as his backup in the Eagles’ starting defensive line.

“Just teaching little things like that, I think really impacted (Campbell) and his growth and development,” Baun said of his efforts to help Campbell. “You saw growth throughout the season, so I’m really excited for him this coming season.”

There are also many other reasons to be excited. Philadelphia added highly effective (and rather underrated) wide receiver Jonathan Greenard this offseason, as well as cornerback Riq Woolen, who left the Super Bowl LX champion Seattle Seahawks to start over with the Eagles.

Such additions have equipped veteran defensive coordinator Vic Fangio with the tools to reinvigorate his scheme for opposing offenses. The 2026 season will also be increased, according to Baun.

“I think he’s taking things to the next level this year,” Baun said of Fangio. “Even with his own plan, he keeps developing and tweaking and changing.”

The new faces and youngsters will need to act like sponges in training camp to master the defensive master’s tools. If they can do that, Baun believes the sky’s the limit—and Baun might just serve as a pilot.

“He’s a hard-nosed, old-school football coach,” Baun said. “If you’re willing to learn and listen to what he has to say, it could be really good for you and I think it’s been really good for this defense.”
