Stefan Diggs to the bosses? Free agent WR open to playing for hometown team: 'Don't rule it out'

Diggs admitted he had considered the possibility of playing in D.C., a short drive from where he grew up.

“100 percent,” he said when asked if he had thought about it. “That’s one of the first things I thought about like, damn, if I wanted to come back and play for my hometown team. I just had the same type of energy when I chose to go to the University of Maryland. So I was just like, damn, that’s a thing. It would definitely be a thing if that happened. So, we’ll see, we won’t see it. We are.”

The Chiefs have the No. 1 pick in McLaurin and a number of question marks after that. Antonio Williams, Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown, Luke McCaffrey, Van Jefferson and third-round pick Jaylin Lane top the receiving corps. After the Deebo Samuel experiment ended, Washington lacks a legitimate No. 2 to pair with McLaurin.

It has been speculated that the Chiefs are waiting for the San Francisco 49ers to part ways with Brandon Aiyuk, a close friend of Jayden Daniels. With the Niners delaying the breakup, the wait has gotten longer. Assuming San Francisco relents in training camp, that plan to add Aiyuk could move forward in time for the regular season. However, with the receiver going on a social media rampage against the 49ers, could Washington reconsider its stance, especially given the track record of players who have sat out seasons?

Diggs is coming off an 85-catch, 1,013-yard, four-touchdown season with the New England Patriots and proved he can still play. Aiyuk, meanwhile, hasn’t set foot on an NFL field since Week 7, 2024.
