Report: Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett 'significantly' far apart in contract negotiations

Given the reported rift between the two sides, it’s worth wondering if LaFleur will face similar questions about the signal-caller when the Cardinals hold mandatory minicamps from Aug. 8-10. June

Brissett wants an extension that compensates him more after starting 12 games for the Cardinals last season. He played perhaps the best ball of his career, completing 64.9 percent of his attempts for 3,366 yards and 23 touchdowns with just eight interceptions. He eclipsed 300 yards passing in a third of his starts, made Michael Wilson look like a budding superstar with the wide receiver’s first 1,000-yard campaign and helped elevate Trey McBride to the top of the tight end ladder.

However, winnings did not follow. Brissett went 1-11 and the Cardinals finished the season with a 3-14 record.

Arizona has since signed Gardner Minshew, another veteran capable of starting an offense off the bench, and 2026 third-round pick Carson Beck. The two have been able to work through the early stages of LaFleur’s offense on the field as Brissett has stayed away.

It remains to be seen how much leverage Brissett truly has, a major factor in negotiations that should become clear in the coming months.
