DL Joshua Weru (Country: Kenya)
Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Weru also played cricket and field hockey in his youth before moving to England aged 14 and being selected into the Northampton Saints academy system as a rugby prospect. Weru eventually left school to start an international rugby career with the Kenyan national team and, aged 19, scored against the United States in a Rugby World Cup qualifier.
His efforts earned him the opportunity to join a second-division rugby team in France, but Weru instead began making the transition to American football, inspired by former IPP participant and rugby player Christian Wade, who spent many seasons on the Buffalo Bills practice squad.
Like Bernard, Weru’s exams were ranked high at the HBCU Combine. His 4.45-second 40-yard dash and 41-inch vertical jump both ranked first among cornerbacks, while his 11-foot-2 broad jump was tied for first.
