Niners GM John Lynch ‘hopes’ TE George Kittle (Achilles) can return before Week 1

Niners GM John Lynch 'hopes' TE George Kittle (Achilles) can return before Week 1

Considering how injury-ravaged San Francisco was last season, Lynch had plenty of return days to upgrade over Kittle.

He also told reporters that he expects running backs Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams, both coming off torn ACLs, to be ready for training camp in some capacity, although Williams suffered an injury late in the season and may take longer to return to full strength.

Left tackle Trent Williams also has questions about his return, though due to contracts rather than injuries. The 12-time Pro Bowler now has a $46.3 million cap hit through 2026, a huge hurdle teams will have to deal with if he plans to remain a Niner, but Lynch said talks have “intensified” over the past week and San Francisco and Williams could be on the verge of a positive deal development.

Nothing is set in stone at this point — neither the recovery windows nor a solution to Williams’ current contract — but there appears to be positive news on all fronts for the 49ers heading into April.
