Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes posts video of himself throwing roughly three months after knee surgery

In the short clip, Mahomes wears a compression sleeve on his left leg — the same limb affected by a season-ending knee injury he suffered in December — and gently steps back before planting on his right foot, shifting his weight forward and rotating his hips as he calmly throws a football. The video is unremarkable, but represents a checkpoint Mahomes cleared as he works his way back from the first major injury of his illustrious career.

Mahomes’ knee injury required surgery and put him on an uncertain return schedule as it relates to the start of the NFL season, which the league announced Wednesday begins Sept. 9 in Seattle. Mahomes’ team, the Kansas City Chiefs, will embark on their 2026 tour that week, though they have yet to know exactly when they will play.

Mahomes will continue to work diligently to return, hopefully in time for Week 1. Wednesday’s post suggests he is making great progress.
