Cowboys kick Brandon Aubrey in ‘waiting pattern’ on new deal

Cowboys kick Brandon Aubrey in 'waiting pattern' on new deal

Aubrey aims to blow the top off the market. Maybe Aubrey won’t reset the kicking market to the level of Tyler Linderbaum shooting the moon for center, but it would be a bit of a surprise if it’s just an incremental build on Fairbairn’s $6.5 million per year contract.

The Texans kicker’s new contract doesn’t help Aubrey’s case. The Houston booter’s numbers aren’t that far behind, a point the Cowboys are sure to make as they try to reel in the price. However, Fairbairn is coming off a career year and isn’t asked to consistently blast away from 60-plus yards like Aubrey. But the Cowboys kicker views any payday for his brothers as a win.

“It’s always positive,” Aubrey said. “Whatever the market goes up as a whole, every kicker makes money. When he signs a new record deal, does the guy who’s signed number 32, whether it’s the rookie deal, I’d say whoever’s signing a new deal, the price goes up.”

The price for the best kicker in the NFL, who has a big leg that puts the Cowboys in scoring position from the moment they hit the star in the middle of the field for owner Jerry Jones, is already high.
