Nate Scheelhaase’s third season in the NFL coaching ranks will be as the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams.
The 35-year-old Scheelhaase, a rising star in the league, is being promoted from LA’s pass game coordinator to the new OC, NFL Networks insider Tom Pelissero reported Friday.
Scheelhaase succeeds Mike LaFleur, who was hired as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals after three years as LA’s offensive coordinator under head coach Sean McVay. LaFleur and Scheelhaase helped the Rams make a run to the NFC Championship game, and the latter will be looked to to maintain an offense that was ranked No. 1 overall in the NFL.
Should Scheelhaase succeed in the role, it may be a question of how long he sticks around. He interviewed for the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and Las Vegas Raiders HC vacancies during this recruiting cycle.
Scheelhaase was extremely impressive in interviews, NFL Media draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah said, citing a source on the “40s and Free Agents” podcast. Jeremiah added that Scheelhaase’s lack of experience was really the only negative.
