Special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia is retiring after four seasons with the Packers

Among the low points last season was the Packers’ stunning 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns in Week 3 after Green Bay’s field goal attempt with 27 seconds left was blocked. The Packers tied the Dallas Cowboys a week later in a game where they allowed an extra point return.

During the team’s five-game losing streak that ended the season, the Packers lost twice to the arch-rivals Chicago Bears as kicking failures loomed.

In a Week 16 overtime loss to the Bears, Green Bay’s Romeo Doubs failed to recover an onside kick, and three weeks later, the Packers blew a 21-3 lead on the fumble as kicker Brandon McManus missed an extra point and both of his field goal attempts.

Green Bay’s 5.6 yards per punt return was the lowest in the NFL and ranked 20th on Sports Illustrated’s special teams list, with the positives largely due to a stellar season from punter Daniel Whelan, who led the league with 51.7 yards per punt.

The Packers’ special teams have mostly struggled since he joined the team for the 2022 campaign. Before that, Bisaccia had stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chargers, Cowboys and then the Raiders.

With defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley now the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur will have another new coordinator on his staff for 2026, one who hopes to strengthen a kicking game that has often struggled for the club.

“While we are disappointed to lose a man and coach as valuable as Rich, we respect his decision to leave the Packers,” LaFleur said in a team statement. “Rich was a tremendous asset to me and our entire coaching staff who had a huge impact on our players and our culture throughout the building. We can’t thank him enough for his contributions to our team over the past four years. We wish Rich, his wife, Jeanne, and the rest of their families all the best in the future.”
