Derek Carr, team manager of New Orleans Saints, resigns after 11 seasons in the NFL where he is dealing with shoulder damage that needed surgery, according to NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo on Saturday, according to sources.
“In reflections of prayer and in talks with Heather, I have decided to resign in the football league,” Carr said in a Saturday statement. “For more than 11 years, we have been incredibly blessed and we are forever grateful and humble with this experience. It is difficult to find the right words to express thanks to all teammates, coaches, managers, ownership, team representative and especially fans who made this trip so special.
The saints said in a statement on Saturday that Carr discovered a case in his right throw in March.
“At the end of March, while he was preparing for the period 2025, Derek experienced his right shoulder pain,” said the team. “This was the first time he threw football in considerable quantities since he recovered from both concussion and left -wing injury at Game 8 December 2024.
New Orleans added: “Surgery was an option and aimed for the entire period 2025, but it was still no responsibility that Derek would return to the strength, functionality and performance of the game he was used to.”
By retiring Carr, the Elder of QB forgets $ 30 million that is guaranteed during this period in his contract, but the Saints will not seek refund for $ 10 million to the project files and the signing of Bonus, Rapoport added.
Carr, 34, played his first nine seasons for the Raiders’ right to vote and the last two campaigns in New Orleans. At the time with Raiders, Carr made four Pro Bowls and became one of the favorite signaling of the right to vote. After the period 2022, Las Vegas returned ways with Carr after a disappointing campaign even though he appeared the last Pro Bowl.
During his two periods with the Saints, Carr had a 14-13 record below the center thrown at 6,023 meters, 40 matches and 13 interceptions. His last and last season in New Orleans was shortened to 10 games when he fought with many injuries.
