2026 NFL schedule release: Chiefs, Broncos meet in 'Monday Night Football' season premiere

No strangers to opening their season in prime time, the Kansas City Chiefs will once again welcome the independent spotlight to begin 2026.

This time, they’ll do it against the team that ended their nine-season streak as AFC West champions when they host the Denver Broncos at 8:00 PM ET on September 14 in the season premiere of monday night football, ESPN reported. The location for the game has yet to be decided.

As Andy Reid and Sean Payton prepare their offenses for their season debuts, the biggest question marks will be for each quarterback.

All signs point to Denver quarterback Bo Nix returning from an ankle injury he suffered in last season’s AFC Division II victory over the Buffalo Bills.

Kansas City’s three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes is a much more precarious case, as the two-time AP NFL MVP tore his ACL and LCL in Week 15 of last season. It’s next door to make sure Mahomes will do everything in his power to be ready for a Week 1 tilt, but his status will likely be the dominant storyline before the curtain Monday night.
