While he has plenty of room to improve in the passing game, Green is an incredibly dangerous threat as a runner. He rushed for 2,405 yards and 35 touchdowns in five college seasons (three at Boise State, two at Arkansas), excelling in both designed runs and out of formation as a fifties scrambler.
That athleticism and his physical profile led some to wonder if Green’s NFL future would lean more toward receiver than quarterback. He is widely compared to former Ohio State quarterback and eventual NFL wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, whose attempt to remain a signal-caller ended before he agreed to a position change.
Browns general manager Andrew Berry quickly dismissed such assumptions, telling reporters Saturday that they would keep Green at quarterback.
Green’s pick crowded an already packed room in Cleveland, the infamous home of a five-QB derby in training camp last summer. With Deshaun Watson returning from injury and in the final year of his contract, plus 2025 fifth-rounder Shedeur Sanders and third-rounder Dillon Gabriel, the Browns will once again have options.
For the second summer in a row, big eyes will be on the Browns’ camp and their quarterback competition. It is welcoming a new competitor; we’ll see where he lands at the end of August and if that might force someone else out.
