USA vs Netherlands - Women's World Cup preview: TV channel, live stream, team news and prediction

The U.S. Women’s National Team faces the Netherlands in their second match of the 2023 Women’s World Cup group stage, after opening the tournament with a 3-0 win over Vietnam.

But this game will not be that easy as the Dutch will be looking for revenge after losing to the USA team 0-2 in the 2019 final.

Sophia Smith is expected to start for head coach Vlatko Andonovski after scoring twice on her debut. Opponents will have to keep an eye on Smith and creative veteran Rose Lavelle after she scored the game-winning goal against them in 2019. Here’s everything you need to know.

USA vs Netherlands H2H record

The USWNT and the Netherlands last played each other in the 2021 Olympics, with the US winning a penalty shootout 4-2 after a 2-2 tie. But the most famous of their matches came in 2019, when the United States won 2-1 in the World Cup final to win their second straight title.

Overall, the two counties have met six times, with the Stars and Stripes holding a 5W-1D-0L record.

Vlatko Andonovski has a full squad for the USWNT’s second match of the tournament. Rose Lavelle, who came on as a substitute against Vietnam, will be looking for her first start at the 2023 World Cup against the Netherlands after recovering from injury.

The head coach won’t make any big changes to his starting lineup, with Fox and Lavelle coming in while the others keep their spots.

“I thought Fox and Trinity were very good on the right side,” he said. “I felt that Andi was a key player in the middle of the field and recovered the ball in several important attacks. And Naomi in the back, I thought she looked like she had three world championships under her belt. (She looked) so comfortable and flawless.

USA predicted lineup against Holland (4-3-3): Naeher, Fox, Cook, Girma, Dunn; Lavelle, Sullivan, Horan (c); Smith, Morgan, Rodman

The Dutch did not look too strong in their opening match against Portugal, winning a simple 1-0, but with a final to avenge the team will be eliminated in Wellington, New Zealand.

While the USWNT should be on top but boast the attack of Rodman, Smith and Morgan, it won’t be easy sailing. The midfield will be crucial, relying on Lavelle’s creativity in the final third.

Prediction: USA 2-1 Holland
