Here’s Dimers.com’s lineup for MLS Matchday 16 on Wednesday, May 31. The first game we’re focusing on is with NYCFC as they host league leaders FC Cincinnati at 7:30pm ET. Following that, FC Dallas will face Sporting Kansas City at 8:30 PM ET. Finally, we have a showdown between the Houston Dynamo and the Vancouver Whitecaps at 10:30 PM ET. With these three fixtures on the horizon, we have the perfect recipe for a Wednesday night.
New York City FC vs. FC Cincinnati (7:30 p.m. EDT)
Bet 1: FC Cincinnati moneyline (+250) odds via DraftKings
FC Cincinnati is the best team in MLS by a wide margin. Their only loss of the season came at the devastating St. Louis and they are 4-0-1 in their last five MLS games. With the play of Alvaro Borrael, Luciano Acosta and Obinna Nwobodo, Pat Noonan’s side have been flying high.
On the other end of the spectrum, you have NYCFC, a club that has significantly underperformed expectations. Lost 3-1 at home to the Philadelphia Union last weekend, making them 6-game winless in all competitions.
There’s not much to see from NYCFC lately that would suggest they’ll find results against the hottest team in the league. Richie Ladezma has looked strong since his return to the league but they still seem to be lacking.
Cincinnati is coming off a 1-0 road win at Colorado last week, and while it wasn’t a perfect performance, there was nothing that would lead you to believe they would struggle in New York.
Sporting Kansas City vs. FC Dallas (8:30 p.m. EDT)
2nd Point: Draw (+240) odds via DraftKings
Sporting Kansas City is finally starting to find some form in recent weeks. Their 4-1 win over Portland at Children’s Mercy Park last weekend could indicate a club is returning to form. Pre-season expectations around SKC were high, but there are still plenty of questions surrounding this squad, even though the goals are starting to pour in for some of their scoring options.
SKC have now won their last 2 at home while conceding just one goal, it might be tempting to bet straight on Sporting. It’s still far from a perfect team, and with Dallas coming to town, it should be difficult for them to find the back of the net.
Dallas is a strong defensive group, only three of their first 14 games have been decided by more than one goal and they are averaging just one goal against.
This defensive record is even better on the road, in seven road games, Dallas has an average of 0.85 goals against and one goal against. They have the ability to dictate the game against Sporting Kansas City and if SKC can find the back of the net, Jesus Ferreira should be able to answer the call.
Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Houston Dynamo (10:30 p.m. EDT)
Point 3: Vancouver moneyline (-135) odds via WynnBET
Vancouver had a tough weekend in St. Louis, a return to BC Place on Wednesday will be more than welcome for the club as they aim to solidify their current playoff run. BC Place means friendly goals for a group of players that kept a clean sheet against Seattle’s potent offense last time out. The Whitecaps are defensively sound at home, playing more in a 3-4-2-1 and have only allowed five goals against in their seven games this season.
The Whitecaps were able to rest several key players despite a disappointing 3-1 loss at the weekend. Brian White, Deiber Caicedo and Andrés Cubas all added late in the game while regular starting goaltender Yohei Takaoka had the day off. Important for Takaoka as he has been dominant at BC Place, scoring 5 points at home in all competitions.
Meanwhile, Houston will aim to break up their current away form. The Dynamo are yet to win away from home this season and despite two strong wins at home last week, they have struggled to convert chances into goals away from the Shell Energy Stadium.
Vancouver will have work to do on the backline in Houston, but based on their recent home games, the Whitecaps should find themselves back in the win column.
