Look no further than Celsius’ Game Day 30 Hour of Energy, which the US international quarterback gave Saturday at Lower.com Stadium.
Coming off the bench with the score tied 2-2 in the 90th minute, Jones turned the game on its head by tipping Alex Matan’s cross past New York City FC goalkeeper Luis Barraza, sparking wild celebrations. Substitute Jacen Russell-Rowe then sealed the 4-2 win, as the MLS Cup champions kept their Supporters’ Shield spot intact.
“Coming in, it’s all about the impact you can have. When you start, you know you’ve got to get into the game and stuff,” Jones said of his super-sub performance.
“But when you’re coming in, it’s like, ‘Okay, what’s the goal?’ Is it scoring a goal? Is it playing shutout defense?” And today it was scoring a goal and helping the team get the goal.”
Jones now has two clutch moments for Columbus, both of which coincidentally came against New York City FC.
“Fortunately, the club has done a great job helping me with the transition,” Jones said. “Everything I’ve needed, they’ve been there every step of the way – my teammates, my coaches, everyone has been so supportive and welcoming.”
