Nico Williams says he is very happy at Athletic Bilbao but “God knows what will happen in the future.”
Despite interest from Barcelona and Arsenal, the 22-year-old winger remained at Athletic Bilbao this summer and was handed the number ten shirt earlier this month.
The Spain international, who played a key role in his team’s European Championship victory in Germany, has three years left on his contract.
After his team’s 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid on Saturday, he told DAZN: “A lot of clubs have contacted me. I played well at the Euros and this is a great demonstration.
“I had the choice between several clubs, but my heart is with Athletic Club. I am happy here and I am very happy here. God knows what will happen in the future.”
The Athletic It had previously been reported that Williams was set to stay with Bilbao this season, leaving Barcelona with virtually no chance of signing the winger in the summer transfer window.
Williams had a release clause of around €55m ($59m; £47m) and was at the top of Barcelona’s transfer priority list this summer.
The Spaniard signed a three-year contract extension with the Basque club last December, until 2027.
